Imprisoned since the dawn of time, Rovagug pronounced ROH-vah-gug [1] seeks only to destroy creation and the gods.

Spawn of Rovagug

His increasingly restless stirrings are taken by many to be the cause of volcanic activity and earthquakes [2]. In a time so long ago that perhaps even the aboleth do not remember it, and before the entity known as Zon-Kuthon emerged from the Outer Darkness, Rovagug sought to destroy the world.

In a rare showing of solidarity, all the gods stood together to defeat him. This prison is believed to be the Pit of Gormuz on the continent of Casmaronin a region known as the Windswept Wastes. It was an imperfect captivity, however, and years before Aroden raised the Starstonehis prison split open, and one of the terrible Spawn of Rovagug was discharged into an unsuspecting and already miserable world.

While Rovagug hates most deities equally, he reserves especial hatred for Sarenrae, who was instrumental in combating the Rough Beast long enough that the archdevil Asmodeus could imprison him. This hatred is returned by all other deities as well, and even feuding gods joined together to seal Rovagug away from the world. Rovagug's relationship with the mysterious Groetus is unknown at this time. The Rough Beast's avatar appears as a monstrous, worm-like being, with innumerable limbs, eyes, claws, teeth, and other, more unmentionable parts.

The horrific Tarrasque is Rovagug's current Herald, although prior to its birth, other Spawn have served in this capacity [5]. Rovagug's most famous emissaries are the great beasts known as his Spawn. The Tarrasque is widely considered to be the greatest of these Spawn. These three beings have only been sighted in The Pit of Gormuz [5]. Their servitude indicates that they are probably not Spawn.

Rovagug has no large-scale, organized church. His worship is most concentrated in the savage Hold of Belkzenthe frozen Realm of the Mammoth Lordsand the harsh deserts of Osirion and Qadira. Rovagug is certainly respected for his destructive power in all nations; the bombard known as the Great Maw of Rovagug in Alkenstar is evidence of this.

His worshipers are savage monsters and human nihilists. He is the primary deity of the orcs[10] and ropers consider him to be their creator-deity. Priests wear shaggy coats dyed in strange colors and hideous masks representing monstrosity and dissolution. A priest of Rovagug makes no contribution to normal society; at best, they may be unreliable mercenaries [5].Home Discussions Workshop Market Broadcasts. Change language. Install Steam. Store Page. I tried it at 16 and never stood a chance, am currently at 18, retooled my entire party to have both Harrim off tank 55ish ACoff heals, off summoner and Tristian buffs, Heals, Summonsand had the pair of them summon 4 of the level 9 "angel" summons, and then about 20 of the level 8 "mass" summons. I just came from killing Ithulliak in like 8 rounds to this, and they aren't even compareable. Last edited by Revan ; 12 Jan pm. Showing 1 - 15 of 16 comments. Mork View Profile View Posts.

It's all about overcoming his regeneration with kinda massive damage burst. Slow and steady won't work against him. He his immune to cold and he probably have a very high DR. To protect against his compulsion aura. So have Tristan use mass heal and run around to remove confusion with Unbreakable Heart.

My party is almost always more of a "wear them down" type of party, so that is probably part of my trouble, though this play-through i have done much better with builds and party Comp. It's BS too because you're supposed to be immune from confusion through heroic invocation, and you're also supposed to be able to remove it through whatever the name of the bard spell is, but it never worked for me. The second step is to burn down Rova quickly before he gets yoo carried away with dispels and confusion. That's a lot more complicated, but once you figure it out the fight is about minutes long. Pulling back some characters can help keep them out of the foot AoE confusion too by microing during the fight Also microing out of the slam helps too, but honestly once you can burst Rova down that's less of an issue. Notable Rova killing things: - Prebuff with everything so you have as many buffs running as possible.

Originally said to be a qlippoth who ascended to godhood and was so pissed off that he chewed his way clean through the Abyss and, once he was free, decided he was going to fuck up the Material Planes next. Needless to say, his coming-out party was not well received by the other gods. In fact virtually every other god put aside the shit they were doing at the time and joined forces to attempt to stop this new rampaging, all-consuming threat to all of their hard work.

Over a dozen gods took part in the operation to stop Rovagug, including some unlikely suspectsbut not all of them survived. Ultimately, because he was such a bad dude, the Rough Beast was not defeated, but was eternally imprisoned inside of the planet Golarion itself in a cozy little demiplane jail known as the Dead Vault. It is because of this that the name Golarion is said to translate to "The Cage.

However, like everything else in Pathfinder -where shit's fucked and pretty much only gettin' worse- the prison itself seems to be an imperfect one and is likely weakening, since spells and favors are once more being granted to those mad enough to consider themselves an adherent of the Great Destroyer.

Although it's holding for now it occasionally weakens long enough every few hundred years for Rovagug to release a powerful spawn out onto the world to roflstomp as much of creation as possible.

This is said to be the origin of Pathfinder' s Tarrasque. Needless to say, Rovagug has a strained relationship with every other god. But he especially hates that bitch Sarenraeblaming her chiefly for his current predicament, and the feeling is mutual. The one exception is Shelynwho is literally loved by all beings Rovagug's followers are likewise cast out and despised by any civil society, so most who would worship the Unmaker are either monsters -especially ropers - or tribes of violent monstrous humanoids, chiefly orcs and some troglodytes and gnolls.

Any humans that would follow the way of the Rough Beast would surely be anarchists or have a chip on their shoulder about civilization and seek to see it unmade through violence instead of slow decay or subversion. Trapped in anguish and impotent rage, Rovagug shudders and the earth shakes. He bellows and clouds of toxic gas billow from rents in the ground.

Rovagug does not dream of glory or wealth. He dreams of the end of existence, shoveling all that lives into his devouring maw and crushing beneath his terrifying foot all that does not. His ruin is not slow entropy but rather destructive force. He is the hastener of the end, the Unmakerenemy of the gods and of life itself.

You want to see civilization fall and its leaders die, and ensure the death of a generation of children so that the future too will perish. You believe that acts of destruction loosen the chains that bind your god, and work tirelessly toward the day when your combined atrocities release the Rough Beast and bring the end at last. While Rovagug hates most deities equally, his rage is primarily directed at Sarenrae. She was instrumental in keeping him subdued long enough so that Asmodeus could contain him.

They had already been at war against one another numerous times when Rovagug was imprisoned, and it is said that Sarenrae placed the fire of the sun at the heart of Golarion to eternally burn the Rough Beast in his prison. All other deities hate the Devourer as well, and even feuding gods join together to oppose his release. Rovagug is believed to have some relationship with the mysterious Groetus because of their mutual interest in destruction, but he has no overt ties with the God of the End Times.

His worshipers are known for embodying the god's dominion over destruction, disaster, and wrath. Spawned to destroy worlds, Rovagug tore into existence while the cosmos was still young, devouring and destroying everything he touched and laying waste to the careful creations of the gods. Trapped by a union of desperate deities, Rovagug shudders in anguish and impotent rage, causing the earth to shake and mountains to crumble.

He bellows and clouds of toxic gas billow from rents in the ground. He births monstrosities that clamber from the rotted depths of the world to ravage and destroy in their creator's place. Rovagug does not dream of glory or wonders.

He dreams of the end of existence, shoveling all that lives into his devouring maw and crushing all that does not beneath his terrifying form. His ruin is not slow entropy but rather destructive fire. All rational beings, divine and mortal, hate and fear him, for he is the hastener of the end, the Unmaker, enemy of the gods and of life itself.

Upon Rovagug's arrival from somewhere beyond the depths of space and time, he launched a vicious war that eventually prompted an unprecedented alliance among all the gods as they sought to defend all they had created. While wily Calistria distracted the terror and countless now-forgotten gods gave their lives to aid her, Torag and Gorum forged an unbreakable prison in the heart of Golarion, and Asmodeus and Pharasma drew upon the power of the planes to fit it with potent magical locks and wards.

When the sign was given that the work was complete, the great angel Sarenrae challenged Rovagug directly, taunting him with holy fire. His profane howls of rage and anguish shook the void as the Dawnflower lured him close to the world that would be his prison, and with her blazing sword, sliced a great rift deep into the land's heart. Power beyond mortal comprehension, born of the toil of dozens of gods and paid for with the lives of dozens more, lashed out and ensnared the destroyer, drawing him into the god-forged prison.

As the cell quaked and threatened to buckle around its furious captive, Asmodeus used his Hell-forged key to lock the Rough Beast away for all time. Bound for millennia, the Rough Beast has nursed his rage, believing that one day he will break free and feast upon Sarenrae, the fragments of the world, and the cooling flesh of all the other gods. He sleeps fitfully for centuries at a time, comforted by dreams of annihilation. Rovagug is the cancer at Golarion's heart, straining and struggling against his bonds until the day when he will consume all life.

There is nothing beneficent about the Rough Beast, no creation to offset his destruction. He has no friends or allies; once he has devoured the world, he will surely turn on even his own spawn and devour them in a cannibalistic orgy. The Rough Beast is indifferent to the petty things mortals do in his honor, or whether they speak his name with adoration or loathing. He requires no special rituals and demands no heartfelt devotion as a channel for his divine energy—he wishes only to be set free, and to know that he is not forgotten.

Though some of his faithful may believe otherwise, he promises no honored place at his side or immunity from his destruction.

The lucky ones may ride in his wake for a time, reveling in unbridled obliteration, but eventually they too will be consumed by their god's terrible hunger.
